Specifically, Heravi reported that as of the end of 2018: a total count of 70.8 million individuals were forcibly displaced worldwide as a result of persecution, conflict, violence, or human rights violations; the refugee population has nearly doubled since 2012; and children below 18 years of age constituted about half of the refugee population.
