Artist LORENZO QUINN highlights the devastation of climate change with a pair of giant hands rising from Venice's Grand Canal. Titled “Support,” the hands appear to be preventing the 14th century building Ca’ Sagredo Hotel from sinking into the water. But they can also be seen as powerful enough to drag down the building -- a dual representation intended to illustrate the power of human beings “to love, to hate, to create, to destroy” said Quinn.
(According to a 2019 article in the Washington Post, “Because of rising seas, extreme flooding that used to occur in Venice once every 100 years is expected to recur every six years by 2050, according to a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.”)
